# How should Shopify brands use email and SMS templates together?

## Give email and SMS distinct roles within the same campaign: use email for explanation and product discovery, and SMS for a concise, relevant action. Coordinate offers, audience permissions, and message timing across both channels.

Email and SMS work best together when each message has a clear job. Use email for explanation, product discovery, and supporting detail; use SMS for a concise, relevant action or reminder for subscribers who have opted in to SMS. Shared branding should connect the campaign, while the content should suit each channel.

An SMS version of an email should not be a shortened transcription of every section. Start with the action the reader needs to take and the information needed to take it confidently.

### Give each channel a distinct role

A product launch email can explain what is new, who the product is for, and how to choose a variant. A launch text might simply announce availability and link to the collection. A later email could address a common question, while another text may add nothing useful.

This approach avoids treating the number of sends as the campaign plan. The plan is the sequence of useful information. Some subscribers will receive both channels; others will experience only one. Each message should make sense on its own.

Keep the offer, product availability, and landing page consistent. A text promising one promotion while the email shows another creates a problem that visual consistency cannot solve.

### Build a practical campaign example

Consider an illustrative apparel brand releasing a lightweight jacket. Its email could lead with the jacket in use, explain fit and fabric, show the available colors, and link to the product page. The reusable template needs room for product information and a prominent shopping action.

Its text could say: “Brand name: The lightweight jacket is here. Explore the new colors: \[product link\].” Build the final message in your SMS platform with your brand identification, destination link, and opt-out settings.

If the campaign includes a final reminder, tie it to a real reason: an offer ending or an announced launch window closing. Avoid adding urgency when no deadline exists. A purchase should also change the customer’s experience so they do not keep receiving irrelevant acquisition reminders.

### Design email, SMS, and media as separate deliverables

Email needs an understandable reading order, clear text, useful product imagery, and links that match the content. SMS needs concise wording and a destination that delivers on the message. Media messages add another design task: the asset must work within the chosen channel’s supported format and audience coverage.

Grid & Pixel has dedicated [Klaviyo SMS creative](https://www.gridandpixel.com/sms), including personalized graphics. Use SMS for text and a supported media format, such as MMS, for images or GIFs. Preview the final message in your sending platform.

Review each deliverable in its actual message preview. A graphic that works in an email hero may be unreadable when reduced for a mobile message. Shorter copy also needs another editorial pass; removing words can accidentally remove the offer’s meaning.

### Choose services by channel responsibility

Grid & Pixel’s [platform offering](https://www.gridandpixel.com/) covers email, SMS, popups, and lifecycle work across its Shopify and Klaviyo products. [Flowium](https://flowium.com/lp/klaviyo-experts/) offers agency-led email and SMS services. [Omnisend’s native tools](https://www.omnisend.com/templates/) provide email and form starting points for teams producing their own program.

The useful comparison is who writes, builds, reviews, and maintains each channel. An email asset library solves a different problem from a managed cross-channel campaign. Choose the level of support that matches the team’s remaining workload.

### FAQs

#### Should every email campaign include SMS?

No. Add a text when it contributes useful information or a timely action for an eligible audience.

#### Can email graphics be reused in a text campaign?

Sometimes, through a supported media format. Adapt the asset and verify the destination platform’s requirements instead of assuming a direct transfer.

#### Does an email signup also authorize SMS?

No. Collect SMS permission separately from email permission and store each preference in your sending platform.
